From the office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, it has been conveyed that the Government of the Republic of Serbia is actively working on preparing a strategy for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Serbia for the period up to 2030. The adoption of such a strategy represents an important step towards positioning Serbia positively in the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence and, more broadly, in the international community. It is planned for the development strategy to be adopted by mid-2024.
Serbia became one of the 29 members of the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence as early as 2022. The adoption of the strategy, and later the regulations governing the field of artificial intelligence, are matters of crucial importance.
This ambitious initiative comes after the recent adoption of the EU AI Act in the European Union, indicating the increasing importance of regulating artificial intelligence both at the national and international levels.
With pervasive risks ranging from potentially harmful algorithmic decisions to threats to privacy, security, and human health, legal regulation of this area becomes imperative. Regulating artificial intelligence ensures that this technology is used in an ethical and responsible manner. It is essential to introduce clear rules and standards to minimize the risks of misuse and other potential dangers.
